FOCUS TEXT: Psalm 67:1-7

This past Sunday, we continued our series, “Worship: All for the Glory of Christ,” by exploring Psalm 67—a passage that beautifully connects worship and mission. Over the past five weeks, we’ve seen that worship isn’t about us; it’s a response to God’s glory, grace, and greatness. This week, we focused on how worship propels us outward, transforming personal encounters with God into global proclamation. John Piper famously said, “Missions exists because worship doesn’t.” Psalm 67 powerfully reminds us that worship begins with God’s grace and culminates in a longing to see His glory proclaimed to the nations.

God’s Grace Propels Us into God’s Mission

Psalm 67:1-2 opens with a prayer echoing the Aaronic blessing: “May God be gracious to us and bless us and make His face to shine upon us, that Your way may be known on earth, Your saving power among all nations.” This prayer focuses not on personal gain but on experiencing God’s presence and favor. Its purpose? That God’s “way may be known on earth” and His “saving power among all nations.” God’s blessings are never meant to stop with us—they are intended to propel us into His mission. Just as Abraham was blessed to bless all families of the earth, we are recipients of grace so we can share it with others.

Worshipers Long to See God’s Glory Spread

Psalm 67:3-5 expresses the psalmist’s longing for global worship: “Let the peoples praise You, O God; let all the peoples praise You! Let the nations be glad and sing for joy.” This is the heartbeat of missions—a desire for all peoples to experience the joy of knowing and praising God. This joy is rooted in His justice and guidance: “For You judge the peoples with equity and guide the nations upon earth.” Worship reveals the goodness of God’s reign, marked by righteousness, compassion, and peace. When we encounter God’s glory, we naturally long for others to share in that joy. True worship compels us to invite others into the knowledge of His glory (Habakkuk 2:14).

Worship Fuels Multiplication of Disciples

Psalm 67:6-7 concludes with a vision of abundance: “The earth has yielded its increase; God, our God, shall bless us. God shall bless us; let all the ends of the earth fear Him.” This imagery reflects the spiritual harvest that comes when God’s people live on mission. Just as a farmer depends on God to bring growth, we are called to sow Gospel seeds and trust Him to multiply worshipers. Throughout Scripture, the kingdom is described as growing and multiplying—from the mustard seed (Matthew 13:31-32) to the multitudes worshiping in Revelation 7:9-10. Worship fuels this multiplication as disciples are made and worshipers are added to God’s family.

• How does God’s grace in your life propel you toward mission?

• Who in your life needs to hear the good news of God’s saving power?

• Are you praying for and participating in the multiplication of disciples locally and globally?

PRAYER RESPONSE: “Lord, thank You for Your grace that has transformed us and called us into Your mission. Let our worship fuel a longing for Your glory to increase in the world. Use us to multiply worshipers among the nations. Here we are—send us. Amen.”
