Our Worship is Meant to be a Foretaste of Eternal Worship

FOCUS TEXT: Revelation 5:9-14

This past Sunday, we concluded our series, “Worship: All for the Glory of Christ,” by turning to Revelation 5:9-14. In this stunning passage, we see that worship on earth is a foretaste of the eternal worship we will experience in heaven. Our worship today isn’t just a weekly ritual; it’s a glimpse of the glorious worship to come.

All Worship Proclaims the Worthiness of Christ — Gathered, Scattered, & Heavenly

Revelation 5:9 declares: “Worthy are you to take the scroll and to open its seals, for you were slain, and by your blood you ransomed people for God from every tribe and language and people and nation.” Whether we worship in our gathered services, in our daily lives, or as we look toward eternity, we are proclaiming the worthiness of Christ. Why is Jesus worthy? Because He was slain, He ransomed us, and He made us a kingdom of priests. When we worship, we boldly declare: “Worthy is the Lamb who was slain!

Worship Connects Us to Heaven and Equips Us Through Christ’s Sufficiency for His Mission

Revelation 5:11-12 gives us a breathtaking scene: “Then I looked, and I heard around the throne… the voice of many angels, numbering myriads of myriads and thousands of thousands, saying with a loud voice, ‘Worthy is the Lamb who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing!’” Our worship today is not an isolated event. When we gather, we join the angels and saints in heaven. This truth fills us with awe and reminds us that we are part of something far greater. Worship also equips us for God’s mission. From Christ’s power, wealth, wisdom, might, honor, glory, and blessing we all need to go out and proclaim the Good News.

Worship Today Shapes Us for the Eternal Worship of Christ in the New Creation

Revelation 5:13-14 paints a picture of complete and final worship: “And I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and in the sea… saying, ‘To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be blessing and honor and glory and might forever and ever!’” This is our future: pure, joyful, and unbroken worship in a world free from sin and suffering. Every time we gather, confess our sins, and receive God’s grace, we are being prepared for this eternal reality. God is using our worship now to shape our hearts and align our lives with His glory. Each act of worship today—whether singing, praying, or serving—refines us and prepares us to worship Him forever.

QUESTIONS TO CONSIDER:

  • How does your worship today reflect the worthiness of Christ?

  • How does knowing that your worship joins with the heavenly chorus change your approach?

  • Jack he said stopHow is God using your worship to prepare you for eternity?

PRAYER RESPONSE: “Lord, let our worship today be a reflection of the eternal worship we will experience in Your presence. Help us proclaim Your worthiness boldly, connect us to heaven’s chorus, and shape us for eternity. Amen.”
